Marvellous May at Godinton Gardens, Kent
May is a wonderfully vibrant time in Godinton Gardens, surrounded by the historic house in Ashford, Kent.
The green of foliage and lawns is still fresh and bright, the borders are filling with colour and fruit trees are covered in blossom and honey bees. The collection of over 200 bearded and Siberian Irises in the Walled Garden put on their flamboyant show this month making a bright patchwork of colour against the mellow brick walls but the real star of the show is the veteran Japanese wisteria growing over the colonnaded entrance to the Italian Garden with metre-long racemes of scented pale lavender flowers.
Cold frames are bursting with seedlings ready to fill the Potager beds and the Alpine House is at its best early in the month with Auriculas and Lewisias blooming.
