This impressive and complete 14th-century fortress of the powerful Nevills, with nine towers set in 200 acres of landscaped deer park and picturesque walled garden, has been home to Lord & Lady Barnard's family since 1626.

Victorian restoration by Burn includes the Octagon Drawing Room and extensions of the Barons' Hall to 132-ft.

There are fine collections including paintings, furniture, Meissen porcelain and arms. The medieval Great Kitchen and Servants' Hall survive. Highlights include the vast Barons Hall where it is reputed that 700 knights gathered to plot a rebellion against Elizabeth I, a splendid Victorian octagonal drawing room that has re-emerged as one of the most striking interiors from the 19th century and in contrast a mediaeval kitchen, used until 1954.

Tour Overview

Experienced guides offer tours of the castle twice a day (subject to availability). Anyone holding a valid ticket for the Castle is welcome to join a tour (maximum numbers apply). Please ask our admissions staff if a tour is available when you purchase your ticket.

A Castle tour takes approximately 60 minutes and this is a wonderful way to learn more about the Castle with an opportunity to ask questions.

After the Castle tour there is much more to see and experience, such as the Horse-Drawn Carriage Collection, Deer Park and Walled Garden.

The Park and Gardens provide an excellentopportunity for fresh air, fun and exercise. TheWoodland Play Area will keep children entertained andbikes are available for the family to hire so that you canexplore the wider Park.

DIRECTIONS
Raby Castle is situated on the A688 West Auckland toBarnard Castle road, 8 miles North East of Barnard Castle. It can be easily rea ched from the A1(M) and A66.High Force is situated along the B6277, 4 miles fromMiddleton-in-Teesdale. Both attractions are well signposted with brown tourist signs.

REFRESHMENTS
Join us for lunch in the Stables Café, a stylish place to enjoy coffee, cake and afternoon tea with friends andfamily. Many of the stalls still bear the name plaques ofthe horses that were once housed there, offering historiccharacteristics alongside modern décor. The menu isregularly updated to make the most of the wide-range oflocal seasonal produce available.

ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility inside the Castle is limited, due to the historical nature of the building, therefore we are happy to charge visitors with disabilities concessionary rates.
